Into the Land of Pura Vida

At the butterfly farm in Danaus, near La Fortuna, Costa Rica.

A mother sloth and baby!

Toucans like bananas. I believe this species is the largest in Costa Rica. Somehow I had imagined bigger from the Froot Loops persona.

Me and a very sharp-toed but docile sloth.

The rolling hills of the Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve.

The hanging bridges tour sounded like a good idea but we saw almost no wildlife.

Victor climbs vertically out of a giant strangler fig vine, a parasite that eventually kills its host.

The Tarzan Swing, a part of the zipline tour (16 cables in all), for which I was chosen to go first. You basically fall off the tall platform while tied to a long rope.

It was often misty at Monteverde, yielding some of the largest rainbows I've seen.

A little green frog at the serpentarium.

Look how nicely this boa constrictor has decorated its home with flowers.
