Norway Bussekspress goes from Bergen to Trondheim in 14 hours. Along the way I got to enjoy the magnificent scenery of coastal West Norway.
Solitary canoe bobbing in the water.
One of the larger towns along the way.
Looking across a fjord.
Brake for livestock.
View from the rotating top of the Trondheim TV tower.
Nidaros Cathedral, the biggest church in Northern Europe.
This canal runs through the center of Trondheim.
Erlend, my Norwegian bachelor farmer host.
Supposedly the only bicycle lift in the world. You ride with the wheels in the rut and one foot on the platform. Tricky to use, and every trial requires a new ticket so, not a poor revenue source.
Wandering around the Trondheim fort.
We attended the three-day Storås Festival. Luckily, one of the hosts I contacted through Hospitality Club was the organizer of the event, so he offered me comp admission - value $150. This is Mira Craig, popular Trinidadian-Norwegian hip-gyrating singer.
The camp site was quite orderly.
Hanging out with our tent neighbors. Boy, can these people drink! And sing all kinds of Norwegian and English songs.
Our tent was not properly set up and practically toppling down by the end of the festival. Rain showers every afternoon didn't help.
Back in the city, nighttime view from Erlend's apartment window. About as dark as it gets in the summer.
Expert climbers Erlend and his friend Anders (not pictured) treat me to a session to the climbing gym.
Do I look like I'm having trouble holding on? Indeed. After waiting for the airport shuttle at the wrong busstop for an hour (bad directions from a bus driver), I took a regional bus in the direction of the airport in a last ditch effort. When this bus driver heard about my predicament, he decided to zip over there even though the airport not on the route! I was embarrassed since there were other people on bus, but they didn't seem too alarmed. Although I missed my flight, I was rebooked on puddle jumper making three stops on the way to Bodø. We flew at 2000m or so, right over the mountainous coastline. Much like a great helicopter tour without the noise or price tag.
